Director Millie Loredo gears up for the premiere of Sorrow NEXT MONTH!

In the new Digital Age, there are so many different ways art can be distributed. Writer and director Millie Loredo has conjured up a tour of Sorrow screenings the old-fashioned way in six theaters in five different states, but she has also acquired deals with online streaming services.

Loredo poured her heart and soul into not only the research to create a film she is passionate about but also the fundraising for production as well as distribution.

Director Millie Loredo, left, and producer Dillon Bowen asking horror movie fans to donate to the Sorrow Kickstarter and IndieGogo campaigns to fund the film via YouTube in 2012.

Like all film buffs, Loredo believes in the visceral experience of stepping foot into a theater and smelling the popcorn as you walk to your seat, but exploring the new frontier of the digital age process of online streaming has proved fruitful for her indie horror film

"There is greater production of movies, and not only a greater volume but also a wider variety and level of quality than we ever would have imagined a few years ago," she said. "They are being launched into the market from an increasing number of video platforms, and while this restructuring of the market presents greater possibilities for an indie film, it also poses a challenge: you may not be able to find your audience and run the risk of getting lost among the multitude of competing and varied content that may be appealing to the same viewers.”

Loredo added that theatrical releases may gain recognition for films, but the real reward for an indie film comes from video streaming from the ever-growing community of video platforms on a multitude of viewing devices. If interested, an audience may see your film once. If they like it enough, they may see it again. They can do so by streaming the film repeatedly on platforms such as Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime.

“Twice as many viewers watch Hulu than the five major TV networks combined,” Loredo said. “There was a total of 38 million people who watched Hulu at least once in the past year alone.”

Only 23 days remain until the premiere of Sorrow at the River Oaks Theatre at 2009 West Gray St. on Tuesday, April 21! Loredo and Vasquez will then travel to Utah, Georgia, North Carolina and New York to screen the film in select theaters. It will also be available that day for delivery online and by DVD, on Amazon.com, and thereafter by the Hulu Network and other video platforms.

“Our budget was definitely small, but this was a project straight from the heart,” Loredo said. “We worked with what we had, and we were able to create exactly what I had envisioned.”

Indie Horror Director Spotlight: Millie Loredo

1. You wrote and directed the film. Where did this story come from?

Being a huge horror buff, I was always really interested in horror movies. I’m also very fascinated with dreams and how intense some can be.  After waking up one morning from a horrible nightmare, I decided to pull out a sheet of paper and  and I started writing this dreamit all down. Three3 pages later, I had the first draft of my treatment for a short film. Being a novice, I started studying and literally got hooked on learning, learning; it was exciting to know more about everything that had to do with films. I’m self thought. Being from the city of Houston, I felt like I couldn’t tell the story I had in mind here, so I left to Utah and shot a 15-minute short. After we wrapped, I got the short back from my editor, and that excitement I felt when I saw the complete film was unexplainable. I had to have more! I was extremely so happy proud to have such a great cast and to see my story told on the screen that I started writing a feature. This is how Sorrow was  then created. I did a lot of research, watched a ton of movies and crime shows, read and studied a few screenplays, and then wrote a 90-page screenplay. I was off to funding the film, which is a whole others story on its own.

2. Where did you find inspiration for the characters and their stories in the film?

The characters represent a million of little different ideas I’ve had from the past, e. Either from real people I know, or from characters I analyzed in movies.  Also The same goes for particular circumstances, and as well as how a the characters with these specifics flaws and characteristics qualities would react. Along with the Bbehaviorally psychology was also a huge source of inspiration for the movie. When I started writing the feature,; I created backstories to better understand each character’s motive and storyline. I used sympathy tools, and added unique weaknesses and psychological traits. I wanted to make sure that each character had a lot of elements to get people to sympathize with them, not just t. To hate them, but also love them.

3.What kind of directorial vision did you have for the film going into shooting?

I was going for a truthful approach, a. As close as I could to reality, w. Where we see an ordinary seemingly good woman turn bad. Every good feeds on evil, andin our heroine who is good at heart makes a decision she feels is necessary. Hopeless, skilled sheHaving lost all hope, she resorts to exactings her vengeance against these very ugly people.

4. Is the finished product what you had envisioned or were there significant changes during filming?

It’s very close to what I had envisioned. Our budget was definitely small! But wWe worked with what we had. , and Aalso being a producer in the film allowed me  I was able to get a whole lot closer to what I had envisioned.

5. What was more difficult, writing the script or directing? Which do you prefer?

Directing was the most difficult. You’re working with dozens of people and there’s always something happening, good or bad. It doesn’t matter what it is!, I do as the director this environment can easily withdrawn from the directing terrene.  I love every aspect of filmmaking…s. Some more than others,  of course. But I can say that I enjoy directing the most because I like enjoy the feeling to beof being on set where everyone is doing their part to help you tell your story, and the actors giving themselves completely to the role and your vision.

6. What do you find scary?

I find the dark scary, and I am  definitely scared of ghosts. That and people.

7. Do you have any ideas for new scripts or films coming up? If so, which are you most excited about?

Yes. I am rewriting a screenplay right now titled,   In Drdreams, and it’s a supernatural thriller. The spirit of a socially upscale girl remains on Earth after being murdered in Grand Central Terminal, and seeks help from advertising professional, Ad man Stanley, to assist her in finding those who murdered her.

8. What do you hope audiences will enjoy most about "Sorrow?"

I hope they enjoy the story and characters.

The Horror Is Real In Sorrow

Sorrow is ready to make your skin crawl with a terrifying and thrilling plot. You could say it is the “complete package.” It is a creepy thriller that begins with merciless torture, horrible killers and an enthralling plot twist. When a young woman is trapped and tortured by heartless human beings, but her escape is only the beginning. When hardened criminals underestimate an innocent woman, there is hell to pay. How will she enact revenge? Will she opt for “an eye for eye” or keep living silently after suffering unspeakable terror?

This film was created under FilmsVerité Productions, and it is screenwriter and producer Millie Loredo’s directorial debut. Loredo said this movie is based on a horrible nightmare she awoke from suddenly one morning. She grabbed a pen and paper to write her dream down and created a 15-minute short film in the outskirts of Utah.

The film stars Vannessa Vasquez as victim Mila Sweeney, Eric Martinez as serial killer Dale Rogers, Melissa Mars as Detective Salinas, Andrew Sensenig as Chief of Police, Donny Boaz as Detective Farrell and Mary Etuk as serial killer Hersey Igor. Horror Movies: Exclusive Pictures, Videos, Breaking News

Synopsis: A couple depraved killers find themselves in a different situation when survivor takes matters into her own hands.

The upcoming horror film – titled Sorrow is one that been hearing a lot of buzz on. This is the story of a young woman who is abducted and tortured but escapes and returns to exact her own personal vengeance on her captors. Starring Vannessa Vasquez, in the title role which is be released on DVD/VOD and on Amazon Prime on 2015, and then on Hulu in Mid-May.

Movie Director Millie Loredo has cradled this horror/twisted film for a few years and she’ll be making her directorial debut.  Loredo first wrote Sorrow as a 15 minute short film, which was shot in Utah. The idea for the screenplay came from a nightmare Loredo awoke from suddenly.

“I woke up from a horrible nightmare, and I decided to pull out a sheet of paper and start writing the dream down,” she said. “Three pages later, I had the first draft of my treatment for a short horror film.”

I must admit; I am an avid movie lover, before this sounds more like nightmare to you, not that it should, and it won’t. I love analyzing the Sh** out of movies. I love a good independent film. One who after months out at sea, in these treacherous waters makes it home. It finds the audience it needs and lets go.

An independent film requires a lot more love and affection, especially if it’s an ultra-low. Advertising on films now has been higher than ever. And there’s a ton of filmmakers now and, that does make it harder for an filmmakers out there fighting to be seen. Horror genre films can be definitely made with a relatively low-to modest budget and still make a great profit margin. A starlet is not usually need in a horror film, and they still do well. But there’s usually a ton off horrible-horror movies released every year with a non-existence plot and story.  I’ve picked up a few at RedBox. And yes, I still use.

Advertising for some “Independent films “ can sometimes be more, a lot more than the budget for of the production But these movies do very well due to the fact that is a horror genre.

Low-budget movies under 10 million that make more than double at the box-offices include.

5  successful Low-budget films under 10 million dollars

Loredo set out for Verité (truthful) stylistic film, and doesn’t crumple over the pressure of writing/directing and producing this feature film.

Sorrow has an amazing cast along with a pretty creepy Exclusive Trailer. Which really keeps you at the edge of your seat. I would recommended you check out this horror movie trailer.  This film of  these illusive Serial Killers is one of the horror movies coming out this on 2015.
